New Website Launched for Gardasil Victims

New Website Launched for Gardasil Victims

Two North Carolina women who met when their daughters both became sick after being vaccinated by the same lot of the controversial Gardasil vaccine, have launched a new Web site to help victims find information and support.

TruthAboutGardasil.org  is the brainchild of Marian Green, 42, of Boone, North Carolina and Rosemary Mathis, 45, of nearby North Wilkesboro.

Unknown to one another at the time, both women decided two years ago to have their daughters vaccinated with Gardasil, a vaccine created by Merck & Co. which protects teens against several cancer-causing strains of the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus.

“Holly used to run six to 10 miles daily – she was at the top of her game,” said Mrs. Greene about her now 18-year-old daughter. “But within a few days of getting the Gardasil shot, she couldn’t walk and could hardly breathe.”

Rosemary’s now 14-year-old daughter, Lauren, received a vaccine from the same lot number. “Within 14 days, she started to become sick and is now completely disabled,” Mrs. Mathis said.

The two found themselves running from doctor to doctor looking for help. In Holly’s case, she was eventually diagnosed with pericarditis, an inflammation and swelling around the heart, which the doctor said was caused by the Gardasil shot.

Doctors at Duke University have determined that Lauren Mathis is suffering from a “vaccine injury” and say it will take her at least two years to recover from it.

“She’s coming around,” Mrs. Mathis said. “She was completely bedridden before and isn’t now.”

During those frantic two years spent searching for answers, Marian and Rosemary stumbled upon a Yahoo group for victims of the vaccine. It was here that they met each other along with hundreds of other mothers whose daughters became sick after receiving the Gardasil vaccine.

Eventually, they found another group for Garadasil victims on Facebook, where thousands more were looking for help.

“And these people were from all over the world, not just the USA,” Mrs. Green says.

Between the two of them, they have been in contact with parents from England, Spain, Germany, Holland and Australia, all with daughters who suffered serious injury or died after receiving either Gardasil or its European equivalent, GlaxoSmithKline’s Cervarix.

Ultimately, they decided it was time to start  TruthAboutGardasil.org, which is designed to unite victims in their search for help and to get the drug removed from the market.

The site contains an information page with important facts about the vaccine as well as page after page of documentation on victims, including a memorial page telling the story of those who have died.

Another page lists “Guardian Angels,” women in dozens of states who have been through this experience and can be contacted for support and to guide others in their search for answers.

Philadelphia resident Jodi Speakman, 39, serves as the “Guardian Angel” for the state of Pennsylvania. Her daughter, Victoria, 18, became sick after receiving her second shot of Gardasil in Feb. 2008, and suffers from a litany of serious medical problems such as seizures, intermittent paralysis, memory loss, confusion, chronic fatigue.

“My daughter can never be left home alone. She can’t go to school, go out with her friends or work (and) has little ‘normalcy’ in her life,” Mrs. Speakman says, adding that they’ve had to increase the security in their home because Victoria often gets confused after a seizure and “goes missing.”

Victoria’s doctor has confirmed that her symptoms are directly related to Gardasil, “but not in a way that he can test or prove,” she said.

In the meantime, her family is left struggling with medical bills and searching for help. “I cry every day,” she admits.

She got involved in the new site because “There are so many girls out there with the same symptoms as my daughter, but they don’t make the connection with Gardasil. If we all come together to seek medical help for our daughters, we can raise awareness.”

Comments are already pouring into the new site. One woman says her granddaughter had her first Gardasil shot and “hasn’t been the same since.”

Another woman says her daughter came down with Hodgkins Lymphoma shortly after receiving a Gardasil shot and says, “I have located approximately 20 others with the same circumstance.”

As of the summer of 2009, there have been more than 15,000 thousand reported reactions to Gardasil, including more than 3,000 injuries and 48 deaths. Fourteen of the girls who died after getting Gardasil were under the age 16.

Even though the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) sent a warning letter to Merck’s West Point, Pennsylvania manufacturing plant where Gardasil is made, citing “significant deviations from current good manufacturing practice” they continue to stand behind the vaccine it fast-tracked into use in 2006.

Despite the fact that Merck’s lead researcher on both the Gardasil and Cervarix vaccine, Dr. Diane Harper, has publicly stated that the drugs will do little to reduce cervical cancer rates and were never adequately tested on children under age 15, Merck stands behind its product. With Gardasil profits ranging between $1.4 and $1.6 billion in 2008, they have  repeatedly expressed confidence in its safety.

I have been so torn as to whether or not to give my daughter the Gardasil vaccine. I work in the health care industry, and of course, have been strongly encouraged to give her the vaccine. Thank you for sharing. I will refuse this vaccine when we go to the doctor next month.

    THANK YOU!!
My 11 year old daughter came home from her 2sd. day of 7th grade asking me if she will have to get the vaccine? So I wanted information and the first page I came across was the CDC website.
Interestingly enough if I stopped there I would have possibly
considered giving her the vaccine.Thankfully through more searching I found and the real info i was searching for. i will be meeting with other Moms today and this will be my first back to school news to share with them! I will be giving your website info to all the moms and girls who I know! Thank you for helping us make an informed choice! God BlessYou ALL and your BEAUTIFUL GIRLS!!!

Thank you for your comment, and more importantly, for sharing the information you have found!

Did your daughter’s school tell the girls about the vaccine? I know that there are some schools offering vaccine clinics, so I am curious if your daughter’s school is one. Please let me know if I can do anything to help you spread the word. :) And thanks again for writing in.

I have a 13yo daughter who was partially paralyzed after getting gardasil vaccines. It has been almost 2 years since onset of her illness. She was in and out of hospitals for life-saving treatments trying to stop the progression of a mysterious neuromuscular illness. I took her to many neurologists and consulted others including Mayo Clinic, St Mary’s Hosp IL, Stanford Hosp San Fran, USCF Hosp San Fran, Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Clinic San Fran, Detroit Med Center and Johns Hopkins. She also required surgeries on her feet and legs trying to correct them so she could walk again. She is recovering and back in school this year. She may never be fully recovered but she’s alive and I’m blessed for that. Gardasil absolutely, 100 percent caused my child’s illness. I am certain of that.

OMG I’m so sorry! Have you been able to find anyone that has been able to help at all? What state are you in? I would be happy to try and find another “gardasil mom” near you, if you would like. There are also many of us on facebook and a couple groups on yahoo where we share information, vent and offer emotional support. My name on facebook is Marian Hollandsworth Greene and my cell number is 828-773-4222 if you EVER want to call. I may not have the answers, but I can listen, and I understand what’s it’s like to have a daughter effected by this vaccine. You both will be in my prayers and thoughts.

Marian and Rosemary – Thank you both so much for uniting in your efforts to educate the public which makes every effort to protect their dear children. I don’t have children and am beyond the age this vaccine is recommended for, but I just had to say thank you. You’re both angels who’ve extended your blessings beyond your daughters.

Thank you for your website. With HPV vaccines in the media two weeks ago I applaud a website that keeps track of the reactions.

There are several vaccine groups on Facebook and I haven’t found one for the HPV vaccine. Just a suggestion but consider going onto FB to get reach more people. I would love to recommend it to others as well!! Thanks

Vaccination should be based on informed consent. Here’s some information about Gardasil, so we can decide whether or not to consent to it!
It has not been shown to prevent one single case of cervical cancer. It has been shown to cause far more adverse effects than other vaccines. It has been shown to cause deaths. Long term side effects are unknown. It increases the risk of brain damage. It causes seizures. It causes outbreak of genital and facial warts. It probably increases the risk of blood clots. It possibly increases risk of miscarriage or babies born with anomalies. Seven out of ten get a new illness after taking the vaccine. If it is taken when HPV is already present it increases the risk of cancer by over 44%. It increases the risk of positive PAP smears. It is not tested to see if it causes cancer. It may also cause cancer through replacement (new virus strains which replace the ones removed may be more cancer causing). It may cause cancer due to the presence of recombinant (gene manipulated) DNA. Other consequences due to the presence of this DNA are unknown and may be horrific.

maybe cancer is what we deserve if we can’t quit looking for a way to sue for everything and by the way don’t tell me this isn’t about getting some of that green poultice, in the mean time you are discouraging companies from developing vaccines to save us from life threatening disease, if you want some money get a job

  13. Marian on November 25, 2011 at 11:30 am

Want money? What the heck are you talking about? And if our website is discouraging anyone from getting a potentionally life threatening vaccine or a company from putting a vaccine on the market before it’s ready, then we have done a good job. In the meantime, maybe you should read our website and find out what our mission is before jumping to conclusions about something you obviously no nothing about.

Hi, my name is Samantha and live in Manchester, UK. I am currently studying Health Science and The HPV vaccine is my next assignment for our class debate. I have read everything on this website and I am arguing why the vaccine should not be given. I d didn’t think much on the vaccine until I found this website! I can’t believe this and my heart goes out to those suffering. In the debate I am going to show all the students your website and the girls that have been lost because of this. I will tell all people, families, friends, students and facebook uses that I support this website and the fight to have this vaccine withdrawn!

  15. Marian on December 11, 2012 at 7:04 pm

HI Samantha! Thank you for looking into this. Is there anything I can do to help you? We really appreciate you taking the time to educate yourself and those around you. It seems most people just take the word of their healthcare professional without doing any research, when making an informed decision is so important!

I am 25 years old and had the garadasil vaccine at nineteen. I then developed vasculitis limited to the superficial veins and capillaries. I am unsure if garadasil played a role in the inflammation of these superficial blood vessels, but I was completely healthy prior to receiving this vaccine with no cutaneous vascular issues.

  17. Lupron Nightmare on June 24, 2013 at 1:39 pm

Hi, my health was destroyed by another drug often unnecessarily prescribed to health young women, called Lupron. As with Gardasil, there are Lupron Victims groups all over the internet. Both drugs cause devastating, irreversible injuries to healthy young women. Cipro is another dangerous drug and there are plenty of others. The truth is the FDA has become very haphazard and inept, possibly even corrupt. We would all love to believe there’s a safe vaccine for cancer but that’s delusional. The truth is that Gardasil is a big money maker which only provides immunity from some strains of HPV for a few years, but in rare cases it does kill or severely injure teenagers. Whereas CERVICAL CANCER IS EQUALLY RARE, and doesn’t strike until age 60 on average. Your daughter is MUCH better off with pap smears, condoms, etc. Nobody should play Russian Roulette with Gardasil. It’s actually VERY difficult to get a lawyer to sue a drug maker, and you will be stuck with huge medical bills. Trust me, I know. But that’s nothing compared to the risk you put your teenager at. Don’t even think about taking Lupron, Cipro, Gardasil or any other drug with a bad reputation. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. People are NOT making these stories up. The injuries and deaths are all too real and anyone who doesn’t believe Gardasil is paralyzing teens is in denial.

  18. Marie on September 19, 2013 at 1:21 pm

A couple of days ago I read an article about two young women who died after receiving gardasil. An autopsy showed both had elements of gardasil in their brains so it clearly had passed through the blood/brain barrier. It caused vascular inflammation in the brain, followed by fatal blood clots. Today a friend told me her niece had a hip go out of joint a week after receiving gardasil and now she has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. This drug is a nightmare.

My 11 yr old was scheduled to get this vaccine. In canada, the government is now including this vaccine as a regular scheduled vaccination. All of the grade six girls at her school received the shot, except for my daughter and another girl. My daughter was quite upset because all she heard from the other girls as well as the public health nurse, was that she could now get cancer because she didn’t get the vaccine. I think it is too early, too new, and being forced on our daughters to accommodate the pharmaceutical companies. In my opinion, if they truly had a vaccine against cancer, why wouldn’t there be vaccines for ALL cancers. Glad I refused especially after reading all the posts on this site.

  20. Christina on March 10, 2014 at 1:46 am

I have a 10 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. Every year when we go in for there annual check up the doctor always brings up this vaccine. I have been on the fence about it. After reading this website they will not receive it and if my pediatric continues I will explain my concerns. If I still don’t have respect as a mother we will find a new doctor. Please keep this website going and updated with all the latest news on this horrible vaccine that is killing and harming our children.
